For A Practitioner

You do not have to be a counsellor.

You have to be the kind of person other people tell the truth to. The one who stays calm when a room goes quiet. The one who notices that somebody has stopped talking and waits, rather than filling it. If that is you, the rest is taught.

What Your Tuesdays Look Like

Six couples in a room with you, one evening a week, for eight weeks.

  1. 01

A man who came because his fiancée asked him to, and who is the one who cries in week three.

  2. 02

Two people in week six who stop mid-sentence and turn to face each other, and forget that anybody else is in the room.

  3. 03

A woman who has never once said out loud what she is frightened of, saying it, and being caught.

  4. 04

A couple you will run into at the supermarket in eleven years, still using a word you gave them.

How You Are Trained

Nobody carries this who has not lived it.

  1. One

You Do The Eight Weeks YourselfThe same eight weeks a couple does, arriving to you a week at a time wherever you live. Whether you are married, partnered or entirely your own, you go through all eight.

  2. Two

You Learn To Hold ItA small group of you, on a screen, learning the craft of the room. How to ask a question and then leave the silence alone. How to receive what two people put down without reaching to fix it. How to notice the quiet one.

  3. Three

Your First Six Couples, Talked ThroughThe room is yours from the first evening. Every week of it is gone over afterwards, on a screen, wherever you are.
